diatomaceous earth - breathing it in and turtles/tortoises

by Sun

My problem is that I'm using a small portion of my friend's backyard. Her fiance and her have turtles/tortoises in the backyard. Unfortunately, occasionally they escape and munch on the veggies growing in the backyard. So I don't want to use a chemical that will hurt the pets. I'm also scared that diatomaceous earth will hurt them.

This website mentions DE is ok for pets, but someone else told me that the turtles/tortoises may breathe in the DE and that would be bad for them.

Does anybody know whether or not DE is a problem for reptiles?
thanks! Sun
