Onions - Problem growing onions,, why is this happening?

why are my young onions falling over at the soil line? also they are yellowish white at the soil line.

I had a similar problem and I pulled up some plants and found little white maggot worms eating the bottoms of the onions. They come from the Onion fly and it's best to plant again in a different area.

If you don't find these onion maggots, I think you've probably got some sort of rot or fungus spreading there. Check that it's not too wet.
