Some ideas

The stem looks like it's a type of burning bush, but the way the leaves are, makes it look like a member of the rose family.

Identifying plant

Can you take another photo of the whole plant to show us? Also what are the flowers/berries/fruit like if you've seen any. What makes the bark interesting. Can you put something in the photo to show size relevant to a person or a match for example. ~ Megan ~
