Eco gardening tips

  • Pick-a-pea
    Plant some snow peas in a hanging basket and... guard them! Children love to pass by and pick themselves some sweet, tender peas. What about giving a snow pea basket as a present for a birthday or for a special person?

    And don't forget to say: "Peas be mine", or "Mum, you make me hap-pea".


  • Neem and bees
    Neem oil is a very useful organic pesticide and repellent. Did you know that it has an effect on insects for about 6 hours, then it loses its potency. Thus the best time to apply neem is around dusk. That's good news for bees, ladybugs and other beneficial insects which are only active during the daytime, and bad news for pests that chomp and suck on your plants at night.

Easy Chimichurri Sauce


A tasty and tangy sauce for just about anything, and did I mention healthy.

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup parsley, finely chopped
  • ⅓ cup mint leaves, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup oregano leaves, finely chopped
  • 2-3 Tbsp olive oil
  • ¼ cup red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • Salt & pepper to taste.

Method

  1. Whisk all ingredients in a bowl, OR throw all in food processor and just blend it enough for a slightly rough consistency. If using a machine, there's no need to chop ingredients finely beforehand.
  2. Will keep in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  3. Serve over most roasts, fish, and veggies. Delicious over roast pumpkin.

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Makes: Enough for 2 or more people
