- Sub-zero hints
yourself some boots which are 2 sizes too big. Now put two layers of cardboard inside the flat pad, wear a couple pairs of socks and off you go outside (if you have to), with toasty toes!
And, don't forget your pets... put socks on them and other clothing that fits. (Me: I haven't tried this, but good luck trying it on cats!)
- Birds 'n berries
Interesting to note that growing yellow tomatoes and orange raspberries saves them from being eaten by birds. Birds prefer red food on plants that should be red... in their minds.
For example, with tomatoes you can grow green, purple, yellow and orange varieties. With raspberry type berries, there are orangeberries, sunberries (orange) and ivory raspberries (cream). Does anyone know or grow different colored strawberries?
- Showing my age with aprons
I was brought up when my mother always put on an apron to cook and clean. My
sisters and I had to don one when we helped cook too. We wore an apron at cooking classes in primary school. We certainly had to put on old clothes to help garden and pick vegetables.
Aprons are so sensible to save your clothes… so easy to whip on and off, and wash when needed. Garden, gather, wash, cook and... no not eat, you can take off your apron when eating! Rather neat aprons here

Zucchini and Goat Cheese GratinDelicious—even fussy children love this.
- 3 medium zucchinis (2.2lb or 1kg) roughly grated
- 1 small onion, grated or sliced
- 2 Tbsp butter
- ½ cup cream (can use coconut cream if desired)
- ½ cup crumble goat's cheese
- salt and pepper to taste.
- Squeeze out as much moisture as possible by pressing grated zucchini in teatowel.
- In frypan, gently fry onion until
soft, then add zucchini and fry until softened.
- Add cream and simmer a few minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat, season and tip into pie dish. Sprinkle goat's cheese on top and grill until golden. Serve hot.
Preparation time: Approximately 10 minutes
