Leggy runner bean plants

by Lizzie
(Yorkshire)

I started off my runner beans in a cold greenhouse, but after 3 wks there was no sign of leaves, so I brought them inside thinking that otherwise the bean seeds would rot. They came through very quickly, but very tall and leggy, even though I put them back in the greenhouse as soon as they germinated.
My question is, can I plant them out deeper in the soil when it is warm enough, or will they be ok set at the normal depth??

Runner beans planting out
by: William

No good I would say. Runner beans dont send out any roots from stem like some plant such as potatoes. The stems could rot. If they were my beans I would plant out the leggy seedling after hardening them off and make sure they were all tied to good strong stakes.
