Pill bugs in hay bale garden

We have pill bugs in our hay bale garden that are eating our seedlings. We use no pesticides. HELP! HELP! We've lost 4 eggplant starters, 4 peppers & some tomatoes. Any and all ideas would be welcomed, thanks.

Pill bug ideas to eradicate them
by: Tui

Hello, I've replied to another person with same problem at http://www.no-dig-vegetablegarden.com/sow-bugs-pill-bugs-eating-seedlings.html.

Really you have to expose these bugs to sunlight, but first you can send most packing with a natural spray - garlic, chili and soap - not too strong, just enought to deter them and stop them breeding and multiplying so their numbers don't overwhelm your plants.

Me too!

My bales are infested with pill bugs, slugs, gnats, earwigs, Red ants and grasshoppers. My plants are being eaten, and I'm so discouraged. I've tried beer traps for the slugs and insectacidal soap. Any other advice would be very welcomed. Thanks.

Hay Bale gardening -pill bugs
by: Anonymous

I am also growing my veggies using hay bale and all of a sudden all my plant leaves were being eaten. I took out the diatomaceous Earth and applied and reapplied after each rain to keep the bugs away. That is all I can do without hurting my plants. They are now growing back.
