Stopping squirrels from stealing fruit from trees

by Claire Gilbert

How can we keep tree squirrels (Eastern fox squirrels--non-native in California) from stealing all our fruit from the trees in our orchard? Any scents that will repel them? We've succeeded in fencing out the deer from our veggie beds (with an 8 foot fence), but the squirrels also drop in here (adjacent to the orchard) to steal tomatoes.

Electricity

We have found through years of increasing IQ in our squirrels that a chicken wire fence electrified at top and bottom should stop them. Also the weasels...a problem, since we keep hens in the fenced orchard! Good luck!

We planted and replanted and replanted again tomatoes again and again, and the monkeys are causing havoc in our garden. We cannot electrify the fence. Help. Brian.
